perioperative industry. Since its inception in 1991, its services have been used by over 80 hospitals

Q: What is the LiveData business
model?
LiveData develops and deploys surgical
workflow solutions for operational efficiency
and patient safety. Surgery departments
using LiveData PeriOp Manager™
have documented significant improvements
in key performance indicators, including
block utilization, case scheduling
accuracy, first case on-time starts, cancellations,
and turnover times.
Integrating with organizations' electronic
health records (EHR), LiveData's
SaaS solution enables high-performance
clinical teams to complete more surgical
procedures daily with the same staff and
resources, providing millions of dollars of
incremental revenue and margin and increased
patient safety.

Q: Was the idea always to focus on
surgical workflow efficiency?
The idea from the inception of our solution
was to make a difference to the patient and
clinicians across the surgical journey. While
we are not alone in believing that " lean "
meant safety and efficiency as two sides
of the same coin, we believe that only by
coordinating the scheduling of surgical procedures
with the actual delivery of surgical
care could the promise of " lean " be fulfilled.
Q: How did LiveData get started?
LiveData got its start when we helped the
then brand-new Saturn Motors bring its assembly

helped Boeing and Ford with early state-ofthe-art
automated manufacturing. We then
entered the electric power market, providing
a trusted real-time middleware solution
worldwide. With our entry into surgical
workflows, we sold our electric power subsidiary
to strategic partner Oracle, where
the software continues to provide value
and safety across the global power grid.
While our initial focus has been on the surgery
segment of healthcare, we will extend
PeriOp Manager's functionality to include
procedure suites for cardiology, radiology,
pulmonology, and maternity care.
Q: Why do healthcare facilities still
struggle with operational efficiency
in the perioperative department?
Surgery is a highly demanding process
with significant variability. There are many
obstacles to streamlining the process,
and they are compounded by today's staffing
and financial strains. LiveData focuses
on the crosscutting commonalities that
are amenable to either full automation or
at least " power assist. " By applying our
process control background to the entire
surgical journey, from the patient's first
