in April, looked at the hospital OR setting
as well as union activities (pp 1,
18-22); a separate article on ASCs
appeared in the May issue (pp 25-27).
Part 2, published in May (pp 1, 17-20),
examined areas outside the OR-postanesthesia
care unit (PACU) and sterile
processing department (SPD).

programs may have been
put on hold or canceled as pandemic
priorities shifted resources.
To combat these issues, perioperative
services leadership at Saint Alphonsus
Health System, Boise, Idaho, leveraged
their long-time manager-mentor
program that provides new nurse managers
with a vital peer support person.
" This buddy program works for all
levels of an organization and for anyone
who is starting to do something
new in a leadership role, " says Jennirienced
managers in meeting today's
challenges.
While the needs of staff rightly receive
much attention when it comes to
workforce issues, it is worth remembering
that managers are a vital part of the
workforce as well. Like staff, managers
have seen their world undergo seismic
changes, especially since the COVID19
pandemic, and also like staff, many
have chosen to leave their roles.
