The wording of the survey question related to education
has been consistent since 2018. The percentage of respondents
with a Master of Science or Master of Science in Nursing
as their highest level of education was 26% in 2018 and
2020, 30% in 2019 and 2022, 31% in 2021, and 38% in
2023. In the past 3 years, the percentage of those with a
bachelor's degree (either in nursing or another field) has declined
from 47% in 2020 to:
* 35% in 2021
* 31% in 2022
* 26% in 2023.
In 2018 and 2019, the figure was 40% and 34%, respectively.
In 2023, 13% of respondents held a doctorate degree,
compared to 3% in 2018.
There has been little change in diversity. Since 2015, the
vast majority of respondents have been female, although the
percentage of male respondents has increased slightly, from
15% in 2015 to 25% in 2022 and 23% in 2023. Participants
were asked their race or ethnicity starting in 2021, when
83% identified as White; the percentages for this response
in 2022 and 2023 were 76% and 82%, respectively. All other
responses have been in the single digits.
Data collection for OR Manager's next annual survey
begins in April. Your participation will help in continuing to
identify trends of interest to OR leaders. Results of the 2024
survey will be published in September and October. ORM

JUDGING CRITERIA:
* Actions the nominee took in 2023 to help their facility
achieve or exceed financial, operational, and/or clinical
goals.
* Measurable results and/or recognition by staff, physicians,
hospital leadership, or board of directors for said actions.
* Examples of memorable actions include leadership
initiatives that led to specific improvements in patient and/
or staff safety, leading quality improvement/assurance
projects, spearheading renovation in the facility, creative
staffing shortage solutions, multidisciplinary and crossfacility
collaborations, and more.
* Actions that have led to improved community health, that
address facility- and/or department-wide challenges, and
have otherwise influenced the perioperative community are
also worthy of nomination.
* Note that the same person may not be nominated in more
than one category. Facility size is taken into consideration
when reviewing nominations and evaluating the impact
of the nominee's actions within their facility/community
environment.
* Successful nominations will explicitly state how the
nominee's contributions have improved their facilities
and offer detailed information about the scope of
responsibilities under the purview of the nominee.
