Responsibilities
In 2023, ASC leaders reported the highest number of employees
supervised since 2017: 32 clinical and 8 nonclinical for a
total of 40. After 27 in 2014, all other totals were in the 30s.

The number of ORs that ASC leaders manage has remained
relatively unchanged, with most supervising two,
three, or four.
Starting in 2018, ASC leaders were asked to provide their
operating budgets by category. Each year since, most respondents
did not know their center's budget. Among those
who did know, the budgets have trended slightly higher. For
example, in 2019, only 9% had an operating budget of $10
million or more, compared to 17% in 2023. Conversely, 25%
had a budget of $1.9 million or less in 2019, compared to 9%
in 2023.

Job satisfaction
Since 2015, participants have been asked to rate satisfaction
with their role, support from boss, top leadership, and total
compensation on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being not at all satisfied
and 5 being completely satisfied. When reporting the results,
scores of 4 and 5 are consider favorable, while scores
of 1 or 2 are considered unfavorable.
ASC leaders have consistently been most satisfied with their
current role: The percentage of favorable ratings has ranged
from a high of 83% in 2017 to a low of 70% in 2023. ASC leaders
are much less satisfied with their total compensation. The
percentage of responses deemed favorable has hovered in the
mid- to upper-50s; the peak (in 2017) was only 60%.
Most respondents are satisfied with the support they
receive from their boss. In 2022 and 2023, the percentage
reporting favorable boss satisfaction scores reached a high of
70%, matching 2016's results. Percentages of respondents
reporting favorable scores for top leadership in an organization
have consistently been lower than percentages reporting
favorable boss support scores, with the former ranging from a
low of 57% in 2021 to a high of 68% in 2016. In both 2022
and 2023, the percentage reporting favorable scores for top
leadership support was 62%.
