Survey: Job satisfaction, earnings trend

R leaders are more satisfied in
their work compared to a year
ago, and their earnings have increased
slightly, according to the 2024
OR Manager Salary/Career Survey. The
favorable rating for " satisfaction with
current job " rose from 64% in 2023 to
75% this year. In fact, nearly all satisfaction
ratings improved.
On the money side, the percentage
of those earning a salary of $100,000
or more increased from 80% last
year to 85%, and the percentage of
those whose total compensation was
$150,000 or more increased from 50%

for half of the
staff managed by Kristy

Orlando Regional Medical
Center. As of June,

the number stands at 13%, she says,
noting that the percentage was even
lower before the hospital expanded
from 26 to 32 total ORs.
Tammy Straub, MSN, RN, APRN,
CNOR, tells a similar story. As administrator
of perioperative
services at Lehigh Valley
Health Network, she has
overseen a dramatic
reduction in travel staff
over the past 2 years as
her organization moves
toward the goal of zero
travelers.

up from 3.8% in 2023.
However, responsibilities increased
as well. The average number of full-time
equivalent (FTE) employees whom OR
leaders supervise is 124, compared to
114 last year and 113 in 2022. The
percentage of respondents who manage
more than 20 ORs increased from
last year's 19% to 31%, although most
manage one to 10 (48%).
