team placement process. We then analyzed
the data using Inductive Analysis. As expected, each RLP had specific factors of interest
which were often context and experience specific, but we were able to find commonalities.
RLPs in our study came from a variety of institution types, professional roles, experiences, and across the United States, so finding
commonalities with such different contexts
is an important finding in itself. When placing RAs onto teams, RLPs wanted teams that
were representative of the student popula-

tion at their institutions, were versatile with
a variety of skills and personalities, and who
worked well together. RLPs and institutions
spend a lot of time and energy trying to hire
candidates who will do well in the RA position; given the importance of the RA position
on college campuses, this is time well spent.
By reviewing the desirable traits of RAs on
teams and then measuring those traits effectively through the interview process, institutions can build the strongest RA teams to best
represent and serve their students.
