What do you like best about your job? There’s a lot I love about my job – visiting with customers, being engaged with customers and the travel opportunities that allow me to stay close with family and friends, whether as an extension of customer visits or trade shows.

I’m director of sales and marketing, which means I essentially coordinate all sales and marketing for the company, including trade shows, ads, press releases and the sales team. There are two other salespeople: John Peil and David Jimenez. We also have an Air Transport salesperson, Charlie Riess.

riumph Instruments-Fort Lauderdale, a subsidiary of Triumph Group Inc., a global aerospace and defense company, was founded in 1984 as a general aviation instrument repair station. The current staff of more than 45 includes many of the original seven employees. Triumph Instruments-Fort Lauderdale broadened its market focus in the early 1990s to include air transport category equipment. Today, the company specializes in a full spectrum of aircraft instrument support services. These services include traditional repair and overhaul, as well as component exchange and loaner programs to both operators and maintainers. Recently, Patricia Luebke, Avionics News contributor, spoke with Jeanne Meade to learn more about her work at Triumph Instruments-Fort Lauderdale.

Yes, I started my avionics career with a manufacturing company in the late 1980s. That was Eventide Avionics, where most people knew me. Then, I worked with DAC International and covered the Northeast for them for a few years. My next move was to the Aviation Suppliers Association, which is the trade association for distributors of commercial aircraft parts. At ASA, I wasn’t necessarily on the technical side, but I was still engaged with the industry as I worked with membership services and meeting planning. I was there for seven years when I made the move to Triumph.

What do you mean by being engaged with customers?

Getting to know them and their business, how we can help their business. That helps us do a better job; the more we know about them, the better we can do for them.

What’s the corporate culture like at Triumph?

What’s a typical day for you?

My job is split between being in the home office in Fort Lauderdale and covering the East Coast for sales. I also work most of the trade shows for the company. I’m on the road about 50 percent of the time.

Our parent company, Triumph Group Inc., is based outside of Philadelphia and has an entrepreneurial management philosophy. The philosophy is to protect the integrity of the individual operating companies while taking advantage of being part of a larger enterprise. This allows us to offer large-company capabilities with small-company responsiveness and innovation. Dave Vorsas is Triumph Instruments’ president and is responsible for maintaining that value within our own business unit. We are customer-service driven, which is really the key component behind the overall culture here.
