the relationship. Everyone is different in the way they work. Anything else? I’m a corporate operator, and I’m totally different than an avionics shop. I give my input to the FAA, but it’s different from what someone else may need.
Any tips for other AEA members? My biggest tip is to get involved with the FAA in your area. Sometimes, we view the FAA as not our friend, but it can be. We just have to know how to work
We need to get as many people involved with as much different input as possible, so everything is more out in the open. I strongly recommend every AEA member get involved in the program.
Paul vermast, vice president of sales and marketing, AMI Aviation Services llC Orlando FSDO Why did you become involved with the AEA Ambassador Program? I felt this was an opportunity to establish a better relationship with my FSDO – to get to know them outside of the normal inspection role and see each other in a different light. I also wanted them to know that there was a local advocate for the avionics business here in the area. What do you feel is the biggest benefit of the program? It gives me an insight into how the FAA does things. It realizes we’re running a business, and they want to help. I think there’s an improved level of mutual respect now. How has your FSDO accepted the program? They have been great. The last time we had our convention in Orlando, I was very proactive in sending invitations and letting them know the training sessions they could attend, along with the trade show. We had a great turn out. They enjoyed the opportunity to interact directly with the avionics community. Any tips for other AEA members? Get involved. The more people at your FSDO know about what you do, the more comfortable they will be with your projects. If you have a question – any question – about policies or procedures, ask your inspector or the FSDO manager. Every inspector is a bit different, but they are all here to try and help. The better you know someone, the easier it is to ask them for help. q
