What do you like best about your job? Universal is a great company and truly cares about the employees. It’s a great team of people, and we produce quality products. What’s not to like about working for a company you truly believe in? When you are not working, what do you do?
I have always had projects. My wife says I can fix anything. When we first moved to Tucson, my son wanted to learn to play the guitar, so we bought him a guitar and sent him to lessons. Later, he asked if I could make him a guitar. So we did. The guitar turned out really nice and led to building a CNC machine – a computer numerical control machine. It allows us to make better and more precise guitar necks and bodies.

Tell me about your children.
My oldest son, Alex, attends the University of Arizona. He’s studying physics and doing quite well. Blake will graduate from high school this year and also will attend the University of Arizona. They are both excellent students. Blake plans to pursue ecology and evolutionary biology and has always had an interest in theater and acting. He has performed in various theatrical productions since he was in third grade. Myles is 16 and very social. He has more friends than we can keep track. He also has an interest in music and is taking vocal lessons. My youngest is our 13-year-old daughter, Addison. She’s into teenage girl stuff like boys, fashion and Lady Gaga. She also is a very good student. They make us proud every day.

could play fetch 24 hours a day, she’d be the happiest dog on the planet. She’s a very loyal and smart dog and is a great addition to our family. We also have an orange cat named Charlotte. We’re not quite sure how old she is, but we think it’s close to 100. She’s been a good family pet.

And your wife?
My wife is Tamara, and we’ve been married 20 years. Taking care of our four children makes her the hardest working person in our family. She is beautiful and intelligent. She makes me laugh every day and is the love of my life.

What does the future hold for you?
I think Universal really has it going on. We have some new products and a lot of good things coming in the future. I love my job. I get here at 8 a.m., and the next thing I know it’s after 5 p.m. Universal has a bright future, and we’re doing well. For me personally, I love coming to work. It feels great to be part of such a great company. I can’t see myself ever retiring. q
