AirNet’s Shift to Retail MRO Sees Success
011 was an incredibly successful year for AirNet Aviation Services. The Columbus, Ohio-based Part 145 certified repair station more than doubled its business. The company made inroads into new markets and expanded its retail services. This year promises to be even better. “Each year, we are getting opportunities to bid on larger contracts, which is very exciting,” said Jim Lindberg, assistant avionics manager for AirNet Aviation Services. “We are also generating business from avenues we didn’t necessarily anticipate. A good example of this is the work we’ve performed on Lear 35 air ambulances. The work we completed on one Lear 35 air ambulance led to inquiries from other aero medical companies.” In 1974, the company began as the maintenance and repair division of AirNet Cargo Charter Services, a Part 135 airline that provides express cargo charter and time-critical parcel shipping services. As the third largest air cargo airline in the U.S., AirNet’s fleet of more than 130 aircraft conduct nearly 200 flights per night, some 250,000 miles each week throughout North America. As the division grew, it began expanding its scope of work

beyond AirNet’s cargo airline – a move that contributed significantly to the company’s overall growth. Today, AirNet Aviation Services operates as its own profit center, servicing turboprops and business jets for corporate and private operators at its Rickenbacker International Airport location. AirNet Aviation Services’ team of technicians also continue to help keep the airline running smoothly, maintaining the entire fleet, which includes a mix of Lear 35, Beechcraft Baron, Piper Navajo, Cessna Caravan and Cessna 210 aircraft. “Through the years, AirNet has undergone many changes, and our ability to adapt and evolve has been critical to our success,” said Lindberg, who oversees the daily operation of the avionics department as well as helps to develop strategies for future growth. “We started with what we knew best – the maintenance and repair of the aircraft in our own fleet – and we expanded into retail maintenance; avionics installation, engineering and service; and aircraft interiors. We have been very successful the past eight years developing relationships and generating return business from local and national business aircraft operators.”
