been open and receptive to new ideas, and I’ve always tried to not prejudge any situation.” One of the lessons he learned working internationally is the importance of being a good listener. “Working with all different nationalities and cultures has made me a better listener,” he said. He also has learned to adapt to the local business culture, particularly timelines. “In Indonesia, the timeline may be doubled,” he said. “In Europe, the timeline is much faster. You can’t have an ‘I’m an American and know how to do things’ attitude. You have to be empathetic, not sympathetic.” Although Adams is undergoing continuous process improvement, he said his business experience has also given him confidence. “I can walk into an office in Korea, Israel or Russia and feel comfortable, and they would feel comfortable with me,” he said. As for the future of Accord Technology, Adams said, “While I’m not getting any younger, I am getting the opportunity of leveraging my experiences building this business when many people are winding down for retirement. We are in a strong position with great, unique solutions. We must stay on the leading edge of requirements. We must keep our product up to speed. FAA’s NextGen is still evolving, and we want to remain the GPS source continuing to meet all the FAA and worldwide requirements. This is the most demanding and best fun I’ve had in aviation.” Adams has a lot of pride in his life experience. “I am proud to have been on a flight crew and served with great people in the Air Force,” he said. “On the work side, I am so blessed to have met many great people around the globe and been involved in a lot of new programs at Collins, Litton and Thales, and now I’m doing it for myself and my partners. I will go anywhere, anytime for Accord. In fact, I love what I’m doing so much that I can get pretty intense.
