development to study the cockpit workflow of VFR
pilots. The effort comprised extensive flight trials and
feedback from more than 500 private pilots globally.
The resulting Mobile FliteDeck VFR features a
simple, intuitive design created to reduce overall pilot
workload and increase situational awareness.
The company also noted that the application features
airport diagram and area charts in one view, eliminating
the need to toggle between charts. Enhanced symbols
are included with the iPad app, and pilot-adjustable
filters eliminate clutter on the screen.
Mobile FliteDeck VFR is backed by the quality of
Jeppesen's global flight information, which is presented
in a unified standard for worldwide flight data and
follows rigid specifications and validation procedures.
The product is available through the App Store on
iPad with a required data subscription.
Collaboration with Piper Aircraft
In a joint announcement, Jeppesen and Piper Aircraft
Inc. said the two companies will provide flight data as
part of the general aviation aircraft purchase process to
simplify access to flight information for pilots, through
a new service agreement between the organizations.
Delivery of new purchased Piper aircraft will now
include Jeppesen NavData and digital charts onboard
and ready for use in flight. Piper aircraft equipped
with Garmin G1000 avionics will receive a PilotPak
data bundle that also includes supplemental databases,
including obstacle, terrain, SafeTaxi and airport
diagrams, in addition to Jeppesen navigation data.
"Having Jeppesen flight data onboard at the time
of new aircraft delivery eliminates a step in the flight
preparation process and enhances the overall customer
experience," said Drew McEwen, Piper vice president
of sales and marketing. "This data service provides
trusted flight information that is packaged for the
specific needs of pilots as they take to the skies in their
newly purchased Piper airplane."
The joint announcement indicated that Jeppesen flight
data will now be provided with the purchase of Piper
Meridian, Mirage, Matrix, Seneca V, Seminole, Arrow,
Archer LX and Archer TC models equipped with Garmin
G1000 and G500 avionics and Chartview functionality.

acquisition and revision process, and pilots are able to
fly sooner with trusted Jeppesen data already onboard."
Jeppesen NavData was developed from a
comprehensive aviation database, which is composed
of more than 1 million records. To ensure accuracy,
Jeppesen flight information analysts edit and verify
approximately 150,000 database transactions generated
from worldwide aviation data source documents during
every 28-day revision cycle.
