uncan Aviation offers complete service, modification,
parts and support capabilities for most makes and models of
business aircraft. The company is
factory-authorized by most major
original equipment manufacturers
and has many domestic and international certifications.
Recently, Patricia Luebke, Avionics
News contributor, spoke with Jamie
Blackman to learn more about her
work at Duncan Aviation.

Growing up, did you
envision a career in
aviation?
I grew up in David City, Neb., a

small community of about 2,400
people. I was always interested
in moving to Chicago and wanted
to be a doctor. However, after
elementary school, I started looking at other options. In the fifth
grade, we were asked to present
a product or service to sell to
our classmates. I opted to sell a
paint job for their airplanes. My
dad worked at Duncan, so I wore
his Duncan uniform and displayed
some paint and interior brochures.
If any of them had owned an airplane, Duncan would have gotten
the job. I started at Duncan right
out of high school at age 19.

You’re a secondgeneration employee of
Duncan Aviation?
My dad worked at Duncan
Aviation for 22 years. He passed
away 10 years ago. He started as
a third-shift painter and worked
his way to manager of the paint
shop. My brother, Nate, currently
works at Duncan Aviation. He is a
components painter for the avionics repair shop.

What was your first
job at Duncan?
I was hired as a parts runner,
which meant I ran errands all
over the company. At that time,

I worked in shipping & receiving.
Duncan gets hundreds of packages
a day, so the parts runners carried
every piece part to technicians,
mechanics or the office. I ran eight
hours a day. It was a great way to
stay active, and you really got to
know everyone on a first-name
basis.
I did that for 18 months. Then,
Dan Magnus hired me to answer
the phones for the avionics tech
rep area, troubleshooting calls for
the avionics side. Obviously, you’re
the first person a customer talks
to, and I was trained to answer
routine questions as well as ship
Duncan loaners, OEM rentals and
exchanges. I got a lot of experience in customer service.
Next, I became a customer
account rep for nine years. I spent
eight hours on the phone every
day and was able to build relationships with customers.

Then what?
Long-time employee Steve
Green retired, and I was hired to
fill his role as avionics sales rep.
Soon after, I also was selected
to co-manage Duncan’s avionics
rotable inventory. This was a twoperson job, and my experience
from the repair side was an asset.
When my co-manager left the
