bang a magnetron tube and analog
logarithmics to receive the data,
the new systems are firing very
tightly controlled pulses through
high-mobility electron transistors.”
“These new solid-state
transmitters allow us to have
very tightly controlled frequency
pulses being sent from the
unit,” Robertson said. “You can
accurately measure the phases
of the returns coming back from
the weather or ground targets.
That opens the door for another
whole set of capabilities like
turbulence detection, wind shear
detection, more sophisticated
weather analysis – a lot of new
capabilities.”
Simpler Operation Means
Safer Flying
As previously stated, proper
operation was and is the key to
getting the most out of your radar
system. Unfortunately, it’s easier
said than done. The major radar
manufacturers are continually
working on ways to make the
plethora of information the
systems can deliver available and
understandable to the flight crews.
Honeywell’s new IntuVue 3-D
Weather Radar is a great example.
It’s extremely sophisticated in
its display capabilities, but at the
same time, it’s an extremely easy
system to use.

what that information is telling the
