out loaners and such," Scheuer explained.
"We also work with our dealers and shops to solve
customer problems," he continued. "So if a customer
complains that there's noise in the audio, a buzz or static,
we send them a different unit while we check the one
they sent back. Usually it turns out not to be our product,
but something in the airplane - and getting a different
box pretty much assures they'll understand that the
problem wasn't in their unit."
Scheuer wants his dealers to succeed as much as his
own company, and this level of support helps both the
company and the dealers.
Another factor that Scheuer believes helps with dealer
loyalty is his wholesale pricing system.
"We give every dealer the same discount on every
product that we give all dealers - whether they buy one
or two a year, or 100 or more," he explained.
A few times, a big buyer hasn't always been wild about
his pricing being the same as if the buyer purchased only
one. "But they come around," Scheuer said.
Innovating in marketing
PS Engineering has long been an innovator in

marketing as well as technological advances in its
products.
Among the company's more-recent marketing ideas
was an opportunity for owners of Garmin's GMA 340
to try, free for up to two weeks, the PS Engineering
PMA8000B.
Since the PMA8000B is a plug-and-play substitute for
the GMA 340, the swap is a simple and a short procedure
for your friendly neighborhood PS Engineering dealer or
shop.
"Most pilots will recognize they want to keep the
PMA8000B before the end of their first flight," Scheuer
said. "But if they want to keep it for as long as two
weeks, we'll work with them."
And the free-trial offer covers both installation and
labor costs, leaving no risk for the pilot.
Product advances
PS Engineering launched another innovative product
at AirVenture last summer - a TSO'd audio-control panel
that controls a remotely mounted 760-channel VHF
comm - one made by Trig Avionics.
As Scheuer recalled the process, he and Andy Davis,
Trig's president, talked about the prospects of such a
product partnership over a two-year period at various
AEA events.
