AEA announces scholarship
winners for 2014-15

During the 57th annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Nashville, Tennessee, the Aircraft Electronics Association's Educational
Foundation announced the names of the individuals who were awarded scholarships worth more than $125,000 for the 2014-15 academic year. The scholarship recipients are students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft maintenance, as well as students from AEA
member companies. Individuals interested in one or more of these scholarships may download an application after Oct. 1, 2014, by visiting
www.aea.net/scholarship. The deadline to submit applications for the 2015-16 academic year is April 1, 2015.

Aircell Scholarship

Paul Xavier of Carbondale, Illinois, is a past
winner of the AEA's Garmin-Jerry Smith
Memorial Scholarship and has maintained a
perfect 4.0 grade point average through six
semesters while pursuing his avionics and aviation management degree, as well as an airframe
and powerplant license at Southern Illinois
University. Xavier is active in the school's Alpha Eto Rho
aviation fraternity.

Chuck Freeland Memorial Scholarship for Flight Training

David Sprouse (pictured with Debi
Freeland) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee,
is the first recipient of this scholarship
honoring Chuck Freeland's impressive career of more than 30 years,
his service to the AEA Educational
Foundation and his unparalleled passion for flying and youth
involvement in aviation. Sprouse is an avionics installation
technician at Carpenter Avionics in Smyrna, Tennessee. His
manager, John DenDekker, described Sprouse as a rare talent with excellent engineering and avionics design skills.
Sprouse plans to use his private pilot's license to offer superior
customer service by understanding systems from a pilot's
point of view. He attended the 57th annual AEA International
Convention & Trade Show, March 12-15, 2014, in Nashville,
Tennessee, where he met Freeland's wife, Debi.

Chuck Peacock Memorial Scholarship

Daniel Sanburn of Wichita, Kansas, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in aviation maintenance management at Kansas State University
in Salina. After earning his degree, Sanburn
plans to find a position with a fixed base operator or an aircraft repair station. Eventually,
he would like to manage an FBO at an airport and earn his
private pilot's license. Sanburn recently earned the Venturing
Ranger Award, which adds to his list of scouting accolades,
including Eagle Scout.

David Arver Memorial Scholarship

Colton Phillips of Wichita, Kansas, will
attend the Spartan College of Aeronautics and
Technology and pursue an associate degree of
applied science maintenance technology and
a Bachelor of Science in aviation technology
management. Phillips has an extensive automotive maintenance and repair background, and he plans to use his
welding, powder-coating and mechanic skills to propel him into
a career with an international aviation company.

Duncan Aviation Scholarship

Josue Rodriguez of Duluth, Georgia, served
in the United States Marine Corps as an aviation supply specialist. He was drawn to the
maintenance side of aviation and enrolled in the
Aviation Institute of Maintenance. Rodriguez
has taken the avionics courses and earned his
Federal Communications Commission license with radar
endorsement. Rodriguez also plans to earn his A&P license
and eventually will pursue a career with a company specializing in electrical component repair.

Dutch & Ginger Arver Memorial Scholarship

Nathan Croak of Ypsilanti, Michigan, is working toward an associate degree in applied science in aircraft maintenance at the Michigan
Institute of Aeronautics and Technology. Croak
has been awarded an internship to work as a
mechanic's assistant for a local air carrier and
plans to earn his A&P license.

Field Aviation Scholarship

Brian Champion of Marsh Lake, Yukon
Territory, Canada, plans to pursue his aircraft
maintenance engineer "E" license at SAIT
Polytechnic. Inspired by the aviation field as
a child, his interest in physics, aerodynamics
and electronics led him to the field of avionics.
Champion plans to work for Air North in the Yukon Territory.
