What was the objective
of the project?
Replace	legacy	analog	instruments,	
gauges	and	radios	with	21st	century	
digital/glass	cockpit,	including	Garmin	
G500H	EFDs	with	synthetic	vision,	
Garmin	GTN	650H	touchscreen	

GPS/nav/comms	and	Electronics	
International	digital	engine	
instruments.

What makes this
installation unique?
The	installation	is	unique	in	that	
the	interfaces	between	the	various	
digital	avionics,	instruments	and	
select	legacy	equipment,	including	
the	autopilot,	color	radar	and	TCAS,	
had	never	been	done	before	in	this	
type	of	helicopter.

AFTER
Upgraded Bell 412EP panel and pedestal includes dual Garmin G500H dual-screen
EFD with HSVT, dual Garmin GTN 650H touchscreen GPS/nav/comms, dual Garmin
GTX 330 remote Mode S transponders, Garmin GMA 340 digital audio panel, dual
Electronics International MVP-50T-B412 digital engine monitoring systems, and an L-3
Avionics Systems Trilogy Electronic Standby Instrument.

Did you encounter any problems
while working on the project?
Several	issues	arose	during	the	
installation	but	were	handled	by	our
team	in	an	efficient	manner.	The	
technical	assistance provided	by	
Garmin	and	Electronics	International	
proved	to	be	invaluable	in	meeting	the	
deadline	and	budget.
How did you resolve
the problems?
Our	team's	knowledge	and	experience	
with the	systems,	both	existing	and	
newly	installed,	enabled	them	to	
quickly	assess,	address	and	solve	any	
issue	that	occurred.
Did you learn anything
from the project?
Above	all,	we	learned	that	taking	
on	a	project	of	this	size	and	scope	
requires	a	team	effort	to	accomplish	
the	installation.	With	more	than	100	
years	of	combined	experience	on	
our	shop	floor,	we	are	able	to	solve	
any	issues	with	relative	ease.
What was the customer's response?
The	customer	was	ecstatic	with	the	
result.	By	providing	both	reduced	
pilot	workload	and	greatly	enhanced	
situational	awareness,	the	new	panel	
and	avionics	have	introduced	a	new	
level	of	operational	capabilities	and	
safety	to	this	legacy	aircraft.	q
