segment of the business with nine full-time A&Ps.
Ideal provides maintenance for both light turbine and
piston aircraft.
More growth came in September 2014, when Ideal
acquired Ozark Air Services, complete with its Part
145 avionics repair station. "There is tremendous
growth potential in serving the avionics needs of the
GA market, and that's why we joined the AEA," Macon
said. "We want to invest in growing this business and
making it a first-class operation." That brings Macon
to one of his guiding principles: you have to spend
money to make money. "These businesses require an
investment up front to make them successful," he said.
Despite this incredible success, Macon admitted,

"Of course, there have been bumps in the road, but one
of the surprise benefits of being in aviation is all the
appreciation by our customers, and you don't get that
in manufacturing. At Ideal, on a regular basis, we have
people leaving nice comments online or speaking to
our counter staff or coming back to my office to share
their positive experience with us. It's nice when people
appreciate the effort we put forth."
Although there is no typical day for Macon, he
loves the upbeat nature of the airport and said, "It's a
great environment to be in every day. My philosophy
is to hire good people and give them the tools they
need to do their jobs. That makes my life simpler."
Most days start with Macon checking in with his crew
so that he can support what they need to do. "I work
on everything from finance to customer service," he
added.
