than 350 avionics repair facilities from 20-plus countries.
They all came to Dallas to see the latest and greatest.
And the event didn't disappoint, with 33 companies introducing at least one new product or service to the avionics industry.
But beyond all those numbers - and some others we'll
get to in a moment - the 58th annual AEA International
Convention & Trade Show was an upbeat event, from
the opening session to the farewell reception three days
later. There was an obvious optimism throughout the
exhibit hall, the major addresses and events, the 90-plus
hours of training, and even the coffee breaks. Everywhere you looked, people were shaking hands, trading
business cards, demonstrating new products, asking informed questions - in short, they were doing business,
networking and smiling. As AEA President Paula Derks
confirmed after the show closed, "An upbeat atmosphere
was easily apparent, and hopefully, it's another positive
sign that the industry is continuing to recover from the
recent economic recession."
THE NUMBERS
The upbeat atmosphere Derks identified is reflected in
numbers announced during the show, providing many in
attendance confirmation of what they had been hoping to

hear: The worldwide avionics industry's upward trajectory during the last couple of years is being sustained. In
fact, positive signs abound.
Beginning in 2012, a noticeable uptick in both billings
and shipped aircraft is readily apparent in data published
earlier this year by the General Aviation Manufacturers
Association, and the AEA's own numbers have shown
continued growth. New numbers from 2014 - made
available through AEA's third annual Avionics Market
Report and released during the AEA Convention - confirmed what everyone already felt but couldn't prove:
That growth is continuing.
