FOUNDED: 2016 EMPLOYEES: 9 AEA MEMBER SINCE: 2017 BEFORE Work began June 10, 2019, on a Piper PA-32-300. Avionics One somersetairport.com * Bedminster, New Jersey Number of Employees: 20 Installers/technicians involved in the project? * MaryKate Sherwood (avionics technician) * Chris Walker (avionics technician, president) * Terry Markovich (lead avionics technician) Aircraft type: Piper PA-32-300 What was the project's objective? To update the panel and be ADS-B compliant. When was the project started? June 10, 2019 When was the project completed? July 31, 2019 What makes this installation unique? This was our first Garmin G3X Touch install for a certified aircraft. Did you encounter any problems while working on the project? Luckily, Garmin manuals and Terry Markovich's engineering skills made the wiring install of the G3X Touch extremely straightforward. However, perfect placement of the 10.6-inch screen without interrupting the glareshield holes made for a tight squeeze. How did you resolve these problems? Trial and error. We used Masonite to originally lay out our measurements and dimensions. Once we had everything correct, we then transferred it to metal. What did you learn from this project? We learned how to navigate and configure the G3X Touch. We were already familiar with the G500 TXi system but were amazed at how many different features the G3X has to offer. What was the customer's response? The first two words we heard from the customer were "Holy crap!" The customer was happy with the decision to install the G3X and cannot believe that it's in the new panel. Any additional comments? This project has shown all of us how the world of avionics is growing each and every day. We are excited to be involved in such a time where technology is taking off and customers have many options of radios that will best fit their needs. q AFTER The project was Avionics One's first Garmin G3X Touch installation for a certified aircraft. avionics news * december 2019 51http://somersetairport.com
