Industry Awards
The quality and quantity of the new products and services
introduced on the show's opening day helped demonstrate that
the worldwide avionics industry is enjoying prosperous times.
Even if the Jan. 1, 2020, deadline to equip with ADS-B Out
in particular U.S. airspace wasn't motivating operators to visit
their avionics shop, the advanced technology available today
- coupled with regulatory flexibility the Federal Aviation
Administration has applied to many general aviation aircraft
- laid the foundation for the present dynamic and profitable
marketplace.
There's additional evidence in the AEA's 2018 year-end
Avionics Market Report, which found that retrofit avionics
sales last year comprised 57 percent of the $2.7 billion total,
with forward-fit purchases amounting to 43 percent. The same

report accounted for healthy amounts of increased billings
over 2017, making it a good year for the industry.
And once again, the industry chose to honor its members
with prestigious awards: the AEA Member of the Year, which
honors an individual from a member repair station, and the
AEA Associate Member of the Year, honoring a manufacturer,
distributor or service provider.
For 2019, the AEA Member of the Year nominees were
Paweł Drabczyński of Drabpol Sp. Jawna P. Drabczynski
i Wspolnik; Lincoln, Nebraska-based Kevin Miesbach of
Duncan Aviation; Pahan Ranasingha of Avionics Installations
Inc. in Port Orange, Florida; and Todd Winter of Wichita,
Kansas-based Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics.
Voted on by his peers, Winter was named this year's
award winner. He's the president and CEO of Mid-Continent
Instruments and Avionics, and also is CEO of True Blue
Power, the first company in the world to develop a technical
standard order-compliant lithium-ion main-ship battery.
