challenging. In this new position, I
will be part of planning development
and strategy to promote the growth
and development of our team
members. Simply put, I love being
more involved with the day-to-day of
what's going on with our technicians
on the floor.

What is the corporate
culture at Duncan
Aviation?

The culture within Duncan
Aviation really molds to the
individual. Whatever you put
into your career here is what
you'll get out of it. If you want
to manage people, there will be
those opportunities. If you want to
lead projects, if you want to be an
advocate for customers, if you want
to work in sales or customer service,
all those opportunities exist. You
just need to figure out what your
niche is, and you can guide your
career that way. I think this has held
true here for the past several years,
especially as we have expanded our
services and facilities at our Provo,
Utah, location. We sometimes lean
on Lincoln, Nebraska, to fill positions,
but we couldn't build Provo
without training, development, and
commitment, and we've put all that
into our employees.

What's a typical
day for you?

My day usually kicks off with a
walk around my areas, and I usually
try to make a run through the various

shops and make contact with the team
members. We have a meeting where
we talk about the aircraft scheduled
and ensure we are on track to meet
the various delivery days.
The rest of the day is spent in oneon-one meetings with key players
about strategy and performance.
There are always various vendors in
and out of our facility on a daily basis,
and we build those relationships and
ensure that we're aligned with our
vendors. We think strategically about
all decisions, like deciding on whether
to invest in an STC development,
while ensuring that the needs of our
customers are met and exceeded.

What are you doing when
you're not working?

I have two young kids at home.
Tucker is 5, and Alivia, whom we call
Livie, is 6. Tucker is all boy, and he's
very much into dump trucks and
digging and getting dirty. He loves
being outside, and he's my sidekick.
Whatever I'm doing, he wants to
be doing. Livie loves arts and crafts,
creating things. She's artistic and
conceptual, much like her mother. I
love their curiosity and living through
their eyes and experiencing with them
what they're seeing for the first time.

How did you meet your
wife, Meghan?

We are both from the Battle
Creek area and will be married for
10 years on Dec. 5. We met through
acquaintances. We're the same
age, but we never crossed paths

growing up. She's an amazing wife
and mother, and I met her at just
the right time in my life. She has
recently returned to work from
being a stay-at-home mom, and she
now works at our children's school
as a teaching assistant.

What do you enjoy
doing as a family?

We like to travel, and lately our
family trips have been to Florida.
We live in a great state and there
are so many places to explore on
the weekends in the summer. We're
an hour drive to the lake, so we
like getting up early on a Saturday
morning and packing a lunch and
sitting on the beach all day. We have
a nearby lake - Goguac Lake - and
we have a boat on a slip. When we
get up, we do our chores and spend
the day on the boat.

What do you see
in your future?

I plan to help Duncan Aviation
remain a facility that is selfsustaining for many years to come.
When we think of succession
planning and where we need to go
as a company, we are always looking
to see what customer needs are,
what their next needs will be, and
then we plan strategically to ensure
we continue the success and legacy
our company has made over the
past 60-plus years. q
