daughter could have a place to stay
and eat over the long weekend.
The next week with my daughter
safe at home and the funds repaid, I
reflected on how touched I was that
a fellow member went out of his way
to help. I seriously doubt if that would
have been achievable without the
interaction at many AEA conferences.
Why did you want to serve
on the board?
My desire to serve stems from
my inspiration from what I have
seen in my years of attending the
AEA Connect Conferences and the
AEA Conventions. I think the AEA is
an excellent example of what an association can do for an industry, and I
wanted to be a part of that.
What does being on the board
mean to you?
The words that come to mind are
humbled, proud and excited. I am
humbled that my peers voted for
me, and proud to be able to have
an input into the association, and
excited that I can help steer the association in some way.
Is there anything specific you hope to
accomplish as a board member?
Primarily, my goal is to continue
the fantastic work from the existing
board members and those who have
gone before me. I also have a desire
to further expose this great industry
to young people. In Australia, the
average age of licensed engineers
is ever increasing. Last count, it was
early 50s, and I would like to use my
position to showcase the opportunities that are available to people just
starting out in their working life.
Without an influx of interest, the industry can only become less and less
effective and eventually stagnate. q
