He provided contract maintenance on smaller regional
Embraer aircraft for Republic Airways in Columbus,
Ohio, and served as line mechanic, on-the-job trainer/
evaluator on CRJ aircraft and lead mechanic for
ExpressJet in Detroit, Michigan. He supervised Gogo
2Ku Wi-Fi installations on Delta's fleet of MD-80, MD90, Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
Commercial license, Part 145 up next
Now, Ondrajka is working on acquiring a Federal
Aviation Administration Part 145 repair station certificate
for his shop. A " few hiccups " this year along with the
FAA's slower pace during the pandemic have extended
the process, but he expects to finish the manuals and
forms when things slow down.
" We had a really busy summer despite COVID-19, "
Ondrajka said. " We installed a handful of Electroair
electronic ignition systems and several Aspen units,
became an Avidyne dealer and dabbled in whatever we

could get from the used avionics market. We've had
some growing pains, but we survived, which is what
matters most. We're a strong crew. "
On top of it all, this winter, Ondrajka hopes to earn his
commercial pilot's license and instrument rating. When
he thinks back on all the accomplishments of the last few
years, Ondrajka quickly points out how much help he
had along the way.
" The honor doesn't just come to me but also to my
crew, the flying community, the City of Sandusky,
Sandusky City Airport, McKeand Aviation, former
mentors and co-workers, employers, my family and my
fiancée, " he said.
" A wise old guy once told me that everything you earn
in this life is rarely accomplished by you alone but with the
help of others, so give credit where credit is due. Without
everyone, I wouldn't be where I am today. This includes
all of you at the AEA who took a risk on supporting me 11
years ago. And for that, I thank you all. " q
