Thommen Aircraft Equipment
THOMMEN AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT announced the first
deliveries of its digital multifunction display replacement solution
for legacy CRT displays installed on AW129 helicopters.
According to the company, thanks to a proven track record in
critical flight instruments and to
in-house LCD design, cutting
and laminating capabilities,
Thommen was awarded the
task of developing and supplying a retrofit solution for older
mission displays installed on
the helicopter, which are no
longer supported on the market. This custom-made selfcontained, NVG-compatible
display unit will allow operators to extend the lifetime of their
fleet, while also benefitting from the latest technology in digital
flight displays. The system converts analog information and processes color and composite video signals to provide accurate
navigation and mission data to the crew. Thanks to its rugged
design, optimized for special mission applications, the product
will sustain the harshest operational requirements.

ASPEN AVIONICS introduced new features and
functions for the E5 EFI. When introduced in 2018, the
Evolution E5 EFI combined an attitude indicator plus
DG/CDI into a single display, according to the company.
After receiving feedback from operators and installers,
Aspen responded with this new software release for
those who prefer a more traditional HSI. Aircraft owners
who already own Aspen's Evolution E5 can update their
current display through an Aspen authorized dealer who
will enter the change with a logbook entry. New E5 displays are now shipping with the HSI feature.
Aspen also developed the following new optional
software features that are available for $495: True air
speed; outside air temperature; wind direction and
speed; and WAAS GPS mode annunciations.
The STC'd non-TSO baseline Evolution E5 consolidates attitude indicator plus HSI into a single display
with a rechargeable backup battery. It also includes
GPS steering, air data computer and attitude heading reference system. Additionally, the Evolution E5
enables owners to remove their vacuum system and
other backup indicators.

Aspen Avionics also announced the Evolution MAX
series of displays is approved for sale in European
Union Aviation Safety Agency regulated countries.
With redesigned electronics and new glass, the
Evolution MAX series displays offer a bolder and
brighter display with higher reliability and several customer-requested functions such as font and window
enlargement and increased processing speeds, all
while retaining Aspen's unique form factor design that
keeps installation costs down, according to the company. Customers purchasing the new Evolution MAX displays get more functions, safety features and improved
reliability priced below the manufacturer's suggested
retail price of Aspen's legacy Evolution displays.
