"That's the type of stuff we find that fails all the
time," he said. "Our equipment and software are good
at identifying those issues that would not normally be
seen in the cockpit. We can also identify difficult-to-find
intermittent issues that are not properly being recorded."
For a small fee, operators can lease a variety of FDR data
downloading equipment and databases from the company
when needed. The data can be uploaded to KGB's servers
where engineers review it and create a report identifying
what's working and what needs repaired. Leasing offers
a flexible option for operators who don't always have the
same recorders coming into their shop.
Designing for the future
As for the DART, KGB's engineers designed the hardware
and software to be versatile and easy to use. Operators with

a large fleet can monitor the devices and review downloaded
data from multiple aircraft worldwide - all remotely via a
special website. With a few quick clicks, they can send the
data to KGB's engineers for processing.
The company will begin shipping DART within a few
weeks. This is just the beginning, according to Balys, who's
looking at the system with longevity in mind.
"This is new technology," he said. "We've designed it
to be a versatile tool. Right now, we have three phases
of products and services planned for the future. This is
the initial phase, the launch. For the second phase, we'll
be doing several things, including adding specific core
capabilities."
In the third phase, KGB will be expanding into a different
type of service tangentially related to aircraft data recorders.
"We're excited about it all," Balys said. "It's been a
lot of work and energy and stress. But we're small and
agile with good experience and good resources. We're
ready to take orders." q
