Jeppesen
Users of Jeppesen terminal charts and plates enjoy
several options depending on what hardware hosts the
software. Typically available 48 hours before the issue
date, these updates are available on a 14-day cycle, with
the update's issue date on the third day following the
update becoming available.
Jeppesen's NavData service provides the latest
navigational data for your flight planning software and
may also carry the latest version of the firmware for the
program. Jeppesen makes its NavData updates available
for download up to 10 days before the effective date,
with a caveat: NavData for all units may not be available
10 days prior to the effective date.
If data for a specific unit isn't yet available, Jeppesen
suggests the customer check back at regular intervals. All

Operators flying with Garmin, Honeywell or Collins
systems have numerous ways to update, with the mostadvanced options using internet downloads directly into
the hosting device.
Collins integrated systems offer database update paths
tailored to the specific system, whether a stand-alone
FMS, Pro Line 21 or Pro Line Fusion systems.
The Pro Line offers hands-off database subscription
management, allowing wireless database updates while
sitting on the ramp with a solid internet connection.
This approach enhances the predictability and efficiency
of the operators' flight and maintenance operations by
putting the pilot in the middle of a connected aircraft
ecosystem.
Similarly, Honeywell's Connected Aircraft system
provides a wireless path to updating software for the
company's integrated flight decks via Honeywell Forge,
a powerful analytics software solution that provides realtime data and visual intelligence. Connectivity is based
on an extensible platform that is portable for deployment
in any cloud or data center environment and can be set to
provide a path to updates wirelessly.
The company releases Forge Navigation databases
every 28 days for Honeywell's FMS, as well as offering
the Honeywell Forge Terrain Database to ensure that
operators' EGPWS is up-to-date with the latest terrain
information. Updates can be easily accomplished on the
Honeywell Forge platform.

Garmin
Customers of this company always have the card-slot
shuffle as an option for keeping the company's many
database and software-based devices up-to-date, as do every
avionics maker.
But Garmin also offers an option that can be connected to
the company's top-line products, such as the GTN 750 and
GTN 650: the Database Concierge working with the Flight
Stream 510 hardware to wirelessly download databases to
Garmin Pilot - the company's EFB software - and then via
their mobile device to compatible avionics in the cockpit.
Garmin offers multiple types of software updates on
varying schedules, among them the Airport Directory and
its SafeTaxi program, both on a 56-day schedule; updates
to FliteCharts, IFR/VFR charts, frequency data, navigation
data and software for the Garmin Pilot Watch, all on a 28-day
cycle; and on an as-needed schedule, updates to its Basemap,
ChartView Key, Terrain, Map Enhancements. The devices
themselves provide alerts to the need for and availability of
the sundry software updates, ready for loading using either
the memory cards or via the Database Concierge.

EFB updates increasingly replace paper-replacement
processes just as WAAS GPS increasingly replaces VORs
and other VHF navigation sources in real-world flying.
