SkyView HDX uses Dynon's remote SkyView
Network modules and components to produce a
seamlessly integrated system that allows both clean
panel layouts but also supports compatibility with
today's best IFR navigators like Avidyne's IFD series
and Garmin's GTN and GNS series all-in-one models.
Pilots control the remotely mounted components -
like VHF comm radios and transponders - through the
touchscreen SkyView HDX, which allows the pilot to
select and manage the entire stack.

KI 300

BendixKing
BendixKing's modern KI 300 flight director indicator
provides a solid-state replacement for the current 3-inch
KI 256/255 flight director indicator or KG 258 attitude
indicator. The KI 300 also provides the same operation
and interface with a modern LCD display and MEMS
attitude reference sensors.
And internal battery provides more than one-hour
operation, eliminating the need for a backup vacuum
gyro and will be certified as sole-source 3-axis attitude
reference for autopilot interface with the supported KAP
100/150/200, KFC 150/200/225/250/275 flight-control
systems.
Further, the KI 300 adds TSO'd indicators for

airspeed, altitude, slip and vertical-speed indicators and
an optional yaw-rate sensor replicates the company's
KRG 330 and 331 yaw-rate sensors.
Redundancy Required
A SkyView HDX or Garmin GI 275 installation
changes nothing about the aircraft's certification
basis or operating limitations. With the HDX, all
primary flight instruments shown on the HDX display
- including attitude - remain fully IFR capable. And
redundancy remains a requirement, even if only by
retaining the appropriate analog instruments and, of
course, power.
With the option to go all-glass available and the
relatively low costs of Dynon's original approved
models - the EFIS-D10A and EFIS-D100 - providing
the needed backup can be fulfilled by an independent
second EFIS.
For the GI 275, the popular G5 attitude indicator
can also fulfill the redundancy need, and an optional
standby battery assures the pilot of power redundancy
in the event of an electrical-system failure.
Integrating avionics: There's more paths
to integration than ever before
These are just a sample of avenues available
for pilots to enjoy a modern panel in which flight
instruments, navigators and radios can be linked to
provide a seamless system from the pilot's perspective.
And more are sure to arrive as avionics makers
continue to pursue ways for their customers to enjoy
the benefits of interoperability and interconnectedness.
It all starts with good planning of the system by
knowing the pilot's ultimate goals for the stack and the
instrument cluster, and shopping accordingly. And with
the ability to connect the individual components from a
common manufacturer, the operator need not tackle the
upgrade in one budget-taxing step.
With good planning, the individual components can
be added during subsequent annual inspections, thus
breaking down the costs to more budget-friendly bites.
But for those operators who prefer a wholly
integrated avionics stack, other, arguably moreadvanced, more-expensive options are available, as you
can see in the accompanying article beginning on page
