TCCA issues guidance for UK CAA AMO
supplement approval
With the issuance of the technical arrangement
for maintenance between Transport Canada Civil
Aviation and the U.K., Canadian AMOs can apply for
the approval of the U.K. supplement for the AMO's
MPM. TCCA has issued an advisory circular covering
the technical arrangement details and providing some
guidance on what is required.
Two factors to consider. If you are a component-rated
AMO, you will not need an approved supplement as there
is a mutual recognition of these type of AMOs between
TCCA and the UK CAA. Additionally, the current
European Union Aviation Safety Agency approvals are
good to use on U.K.-registered aircraft up to the expiration
of that supplement or for a maximum of two years. This
has given shops time to make the transition.
In order to apply for the approval, the AMO must:
1. Prepare the supplement covering the details of
the technical arrangement. These can be found at

2. Fill out the UK CAA approval form SRG1772
and send it to the local TCCA office: https://bit.
ly/3noAjf3.
3. Describe in the supplement how work is accepted
from other shops and line stations. Any line station
outside of Canada should be clearly identified.

TCCA will then take the appropriate actions to
approve the supplement for the AMO's MPM. Once
received, no renewal is required for this approval,
unlike the EASA supplement.
TCCA revises guidance for operators
using ADS-B equipment
Transport Canada Civil Aviation has revised AC
700-009, which provided guidance for the installation
and use of ADS-B equipment. This change was made
in recognition for the need to develop a solid ADS-B
policy, including mandating the use of ADS-B
(potentially), the installation requirements and the
use of ADS-B in an operational environment.
The changes to the AC include the removal of all
airworthiness requirements for ADS-B. TCCA is
working on developing a specific AC to cover the
installation requirements of ADS-B on Canadian
aircraft. Currently, TCCA is communicating
informally that, to install ADS-B, it must be done
with an STC or OEM data. The AEA will be working
with TCCA to publish guidance to allow installations
under certain circumstances that will not require an
STC or OEM data.
Also, TCCA removed the requirement for a special
authorization to be granted under Operational Spec
#609 if an operator wanted to use an ADS-B. The
AC now includes simple details on what is required
in the company operations manual and the training
requirements. This is a significant departure from
TCCA's original stance on the use of ADS-B. More
changes on this front to come. q
