and marketing, Kevin Hayes, briefed AEA Convention
attendees on ALTO Aviation's latest offering: new fitcompatible,
direct-replacement Cadence switch panel
solutions for obsolete Baker passenger controls, typically
found on Dassault Falcon business jets.
The new components are approved under FAA TSOC139a
to upgrade old MHL3 and MHL4 panels from
Baker and expands the company's products designed
to replace switches from manufacturers like Airshow,
Audio International, Lufthansa NICE and Pacific Systems
Micronet. ALTO Aviation's replacement bezels provide
seamless installation and fit with any interior design
concept, saving installation costs by preserving existing
woodwork. By retaining cutouts, ALTO can provide
solutions that seamlessly upgrade obsolete switch panels
and add new functionality, including Bluetooth audio,
HDMI and USB ports.
" The introduction of our ALTO Cadence CMS
replacement for obsolete Baker passenger controls
represents our continued commitment to anticipate and
provide our clients with innovative, effective ideas that
solve obsolescence, reduce wood rework, and significantly
save in installation costs and resources, " Hayes said in a
release announcing the new products.
Hayes also announced a new company milestone:
ALTO's Cadence switch series has been installed in over
250 business jets, including aircraft from Gulfstream,
Dassault, Bombardier and Cessna. According to the
company, " All installations have been customized
explicitly for retrofit aircraft to replace their obsolete, nonserviceable,
or broken passenger controls. "

Appareo
One of the operational benefits modern avionics and
integrated flight decks offer is storage and retrieval
of detailed flight data. The information can be used
for purposes as traditional as flight training and trend
monitoring or in formal flight data management/flight
operational quality assurance programs. But older aircraft
lacking upgraded avionics may also lack a modern solution
to obtain and review these data. Appareo's newest FDM
tool, its Airborne Image Recording System, model AIRS400,
aims to fill that gap with a wide range of features that
should appeal to owners and operators alike.
For example, in addition to recording 4K Ultra HD
video, Appareo's AIRS-400 can capture pilot intercom

system audio and ambient sounds. More important for
many purposes, however, it also captures detailed flight
data, including altitude, latitude, longitude, ground speed
and vertical speed, plus pitch, roll, yaw, rotation rate (if
any) and acceleration data. It also offers cellular data
offload capabilities. The AIRS-400 does all that in a unit
weighing 11 ounces. Options include ARINC 429 input,
ED-155 audio output and RS-422 output. With all that
going on, Appareo said it's " the most versatile and flexible
lightweight flight data recorder on the market. "
The unit's internal memory records two hours of video
and audio, more than 200 hours of flight data and 100
hours of ARINC 429 data. The removable SD card holds
64 hours of video and audio, and more than 200 hours of
flight data, or 100 hours of ARINC 429 data. The AIRS400
is designed as a drop-in replacement for the company's
Vision 1000 recorder, down to compatibility with its wiring
harness and mounting bracket. The company expects to be
shipping the new product in September 2021. A full STC
