backup instruments - airspeed, altitude, artificial horizon -
are required with the MAX 2000 or 2500 systems.
Also new from Aspen is its enhanced interface with
the Genesys Aerosystems S-TEC 3100 autopilot. The
enhancements add IAS hold mode, vertical speed
preselection and flight envelope protection without the
need for an external air data computer. The new interface
requires upgrading to the MAX configuration and an
advanced features unlock card from Genesys, and also
allows flight director and autopilot mode annunciations.
Aspen's Scott Smith told attendees his company plans to
add an interface to Garmin's GFC 600 autopilot allowing
many if not all of these same features, which he hopes will
be available by the end of 2021.
A new extended-duration internal battery allows
removing all backup instruments and systems when used
with the Evolution 2000/2500 MAX systems, which means
owners can finally ditch their vacuum pump systems and
associated attitude indicators in most cases. The new
upgraded battery is installed in the E5 electronic flight
instrument plus the Pro MAX PFD and MAX MFD. Legacy
units may be eligible for this upgrade.

Avidyne
Avidyne announced it received FAA supplemental type
certificate approval for its new SkyTrax200 ADS-B In
receiver. The SkyTrax200 is a dual-band (1090 MHz and
978 MHz) receiver providing direct line-of-sight reception
of ADS-B traffic targets for use in airspace in the U.S.
and around the globe. The SkyTrax 200 also is capable of
receiving traffic output from active systems like Avidyne's
SkyTrax600, Ryan's 9900BX or a legacy Skywatch system,
and then combining it with ADS-B traffic information
