Garmin's GSB 15 USB charging hubs, which now are
available with USB-C connectivity and also can link to the
GI 275 instruments for software updates.
The company also announced new engine indication
system capabilities for its TXi line of touchscreen flight
displays specifically for twin-engine turboprops. The new
EIS solution is available for the Beech King Air 90 series,
the Cessna Conquest I and Piper's Cheyenne series, and
features gauges optimized for turboprops, automated colorcoded
data bands, timers and exceedance warnings. The
TXi's EIS capabilities are available on the 7-inch portrait
display.
Garmin also added new approvals for its GFC 500 and
GFC 600 autopilots. For the GFC 500, Socata Trinidad
TB-20 and -21 models were added to the FAA supplemental
type certificate, with Beech Bonanza 35 models H through
M, Cessna 210D, 210E, 210F and T210F, plus Mooney
M20C, D and E aircraft expected soon. For the GFC 600,
new approvals include various models of the Beech King
Air 90 series, the Cessna 441 and Model 525 CitationJet,
plus Pilatus PC-12/41 and /45.
Also available on the GFC 600 for selected piston twins
is a new capability: Smart Rudder Bias, which manipulates
the rudder and ailerons to help the pilot retain control in the
event of an engine failure.

Genesys Aerosystems
Genesys Aerosystems brought two announcements
to the 2021 AEA New Product Introductions: a set of
hardware and software upgrades for the S-TEC 3100 digital
autopilot and FAA technical standard order approval for the
company's Genesys Digital Radio product line.
The new Version 1.4 update for the S-TEC 3100
features a white backlit display perfect for improved
readability in bright sunlight or steep viewing angles, plus
an updated bezel with an optional en route VNAV button,
which leverages a new capability. The software update
brings the support for GPS en route VNAV - when paired
with an approved EFIS/GPS navigator - plus new mode
annunciations, advanced integration with Aspen MAX PFD
and other improvements resulting from customer feedback.
When upgraded to Version 1.4 and paired with a
supported position source that supports en route VNAV, the
S-TEC 3100 will follow the step-down vertical guidance
typically found with standard terminal arrival routes. The
updates also support advanced integration with the Aspen
Avionics MAX primary flight display, requiring only an
advanced autopilot software unlock from Aspen. The
Version 1.4 S-TEC 3100 is approved on a wide range of
piston singles and twins from Beech, Cessna and Piper, plus
the King Air 90, 100 and 200 models.
The Genesys Digital Radio is a family of 11 TSOapproved
remote-mounted, software-definable navigation
and communication radios that combine VOR/localizer/
glideslope and marker beacon capabilities, plus
communication in the VHF range of 118-156 MHz and,
optionally, UHF frequencies of 225-400MHz. The GDR
line is designed to interface to a host controller/display
via RS-232 or ARINC 429 serial interfaces. The GDR's
standard transmit power is 16 watts with a 25-watt option
available for those operators requiring longer-range
communications.

Gogo Business Aviation
As sponsor of the AEA's 2021 New Product Introductions
session, Gogo Business Aviation's David Salvador took
some extra time during his presentation to both acknowledge
the sacrifices to COVID-19 many have made since the 2019
convention and illustrate how the pandemic has affected the
in-flight connectivity industry. For example, following a dip
in April 2020, in-flight data use rapidly recovered to even
stronger levels than before the pandemic.
S-TEC 3100 digital autopilot
Looking at historical numbers, Salvador told attendees
individual users now consume more than double the
bandwidth than they did in 2014. An average of nine devices
per flight are in use, an 80% increase over 2015. And, in 2011,
only 4% of the business aviation market was connected with
Gogo's air-to-ground network; today, 28% are connected.
Accessing cloud-based file storage leads the typical demand
for the company's in-flight connectivity by a wide margin,
with email, software updates, home camera monitor and
banking applications rounding out the five principal uses.
All of that is creating demand for Gogo's coming
5G service. In preparation, Salvador stressed that his
company is working to ensure 5G capabilities exist
