according to the company. It has the same basic features as
the Carbon P1 and, also like the PI, comes with Bluetooth
technology allowing two connections at the same time.
Both also offer record-out capabilities to connect a camera/
digital recorder or smartphone and feature a detachable
cord to accommodate different aircraft: general aviation,
helicopters and those with six-pin LEMO plugs.

Bluetooth adapter, which provides a wireless connection
to a cellphone, tablet or music source. The BluLink II also
employs Pilot's detachable headset cord design, allowing

If Gary Reeves had his way, general aviation pilots
would be more familiar with their avionics and be safer
because of it. Reeves is the FAA's 2019 Flight Instructor
of the Year and the driving force behind the PilotSafety.
org website. He's also a National Association of Flight
Instructors Master Instructor and an 8,000-plus-hour
airline transport pilot. He's recognized by manufacturers
like Avidyne and Genesys Aerosystems for training on
their products. Reeves also
is convinced today's modern
avionics offer substantial safety
benefits for pilots - if only they
knew how to use them. He's so
convinced of this that he wrote
a book, Single-Pilot IFR Pro
Tips, that he wants to give to
avionics installers for free.
" I teach your customers how
to work the stuff you sell and
install, " Reeves told attendees,
adding that customers need his
book, which will encourage
them to buy more avionics. " Autopilots don't cause
accidents; they prevent them. And GPS units and ForeFlight
make flight planning better and safer, " he noted. Reeves
goes on to state that autopilots and GPS are the answer to
save lives, not the problem, because they directly reduce
what he calls " decision fatigue " and prevent " adrenaline
paralysis. "
" Why do you want to give this book to every single
customer that buys anything from you? " Reeves asked
attendees. Because flight instructors teach pilots not to
use autopilots, GPS and FMS systems since checkride
examiners want to see the old hand-flying skills, he
answered. " I want to teach people they need to use it more,
and that's what you need to hear. "
By ensuring customers are trained to use their new
avionics, Reeves is convinced safety will be enhanced and
those customers will be happier and buy more of them.

PS Engineering
Founded in 1985, PS Engineering has become a leading
manufacturer of both general aviation and special-mission
audio control systems, its sole corporate focus, and the
company is credited for many innovations in the field.
At the 2021 AEA Convention, Peter Campbell, vice
president for
engineering,
briefed
attendees on
the company's
latest offering,
the PAC45L
series, which
Campbell said is the first
controller the company has released that is specifically
designed for business aviation aircraft.
The PS Engineering PAC45L is a remote-mount system
with a cockpit control panel intended to replace legacy
systems in the business jet fleet. Its key features include
oxygen mask microphone panel activation during both
normal and fail-safe operation, the company's MultiTalker
capability that spatially separates different audio sources
in a headset, built-in Bluetooth connectivity and a wired
music input. Unlimited bezel options are available,
including factory customization and a choice of black or
gray backgrounds.
The unit manages three communications radios plus a
Satcom device, offers up to eight switched navaid inputs
with individual volume controls and up to five unswitched
audio inputs. There's also an independent audio alert
function with nine field-programmable messages. The
PAC45L also includes PS Engineering's IntelliVox voiceactivated
intercom capability. The system can be installed
and configured without need for a computer and is FAATSO
compliant under both Parts 23 and 25.
The PAC45L can accommodate up to four crew
members and 10 passenger intercom positions, all with the
company's IntelliVox automatic squelch. PS Engineering's
PAC45L carries a list price of $12,995 and can ship
immediately.
