CMS' wireless technology also plays its part to simplify
installations, according to Feuerhak. Modular relays snap
into the switches and allow technicians to place devices next
to existing wiring, minimizing the amount of wiring needed
in the cabin.
" You don't necessarily have to pull the entire cabin apart, "
he said. " The idea is to make it modular so you can make
a little adapter harness to the existing wiring, plug in our
modules, program them and move on. "
Configurable user interface
In addition to creating new hardware, the team at CMS
plans to go a step further and tackle the software. Specifically,
the software engineering team is working on adding the
ability for operators to customize the cabin management
system's user interface.
" It's one of the biggest challenges operators face; you have
this system, but you want to change a few things, " Feuerhak
said. " You have to take it back to the MRO and pay more to
have it programmed. We'll be introducing a configuration
tool, which allows MROs to quickly and easily make the
changes most often requested by owners and operators. "
With the tool, a technician would have the flexibility to
swap in a different icon or move icons around on the screen,
assign different words, or create presets so one button handles
multiple functions. Feuerhak expects a demo tool will be
available by the first of the year.
Envisioning the future
CMS has accomplished a lot in three years with its ambitious
vision of creating an end-to-end solution that includes - so far
- a cabin management system, moving map system, 4K audio/
video distribution system, audio system with speakers, HD
monitors and a software tool to configure the user interface.
" Instead of having monitors, speakers and switch panels
from different vendors, operators can get the whole solution
from us, " Feuerhak said. " We want to be a one-stop shop so
they have confidence that all of the equipment is going to work
well together. " q
