" We're in the very initial stages
of becoming a full-service avionics
provider. Previously, we only serviced
our own fleet. Now we have the
experience and the manpower to branch
out and offer avionics to the general
public, " said Bo Ballard, vice president
of operations. Ballard has worked at
Tri-State Aero in a variety of roles over
the last 28 years, including on the ramp,
as a flight instructor, line service manager
and general manager before becoming
vice president of operations.
" I've been at Tri-State Aero for
virtually my entire career, " Ballard said.
On the maintenance side, Tri-State
Aero is an authorized service center for
Cirrus and Piper. Its aviation mechanics
routinely maintain and repair Cirrus and
Piper aircraft as well as Beechcraft King
Airs and Beechjets out of several large hangars at the
airport totaling more than
100,000 square feet.
" We've always been a
strong repair station for
maintenance, " Ballard said.
" We have 40 to 47 aircraft
currently based with us.
There are seven employees in the maintenance shop
alone. "
Tri-State Aero also operates the airport's fixedbase
operator, providing fuel and other line services
to a host of general aviation, business and military
aircraft and Allegiant Air's Airbus 320 airliners.

" When it comes to line
service, every day is different, " Ballard said. " Fort
Campbell is fairly close. We have a military contract,
so we get to see a wide range of military and civilian
aircraft, including Air Force One, which we've hosted
three times in the last seven years. "
