In Memory: Charlie Schneider
The AEA and the avionics community mourn the
loss of MyGoFlight CEO Charlie Schneider, who died
Dec. 17, 2021, after a plane crash near McGhee
Tyson Airport in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was 64
years old.
Schneider founded the Denver, Colorado-based
company in 2010, which became an AEA member
in 2016. He was a regular attendee at the AEA
International Convention & Trade Show, and he
recently unveiled his company's new SkyDisplay
HUD for general aviation during the show's new
product introductions in June 2021.
According to the company, Schneider's legacy
and dream of making aviation safer will be carried
forward by the entire team at MyGoFlight under the
continued leadership of the other partners - Tracey
Schneider, Dominic Martinez and Brian Domareck.
Memorial donations may be made in Schneider's
honor to the Corporate Angel Network. q

In Memory: Geoffrey Hedrick
On Jan. 13, 2022, Innovative Solutions & Support
announced that Geoffrey S. M. Hedrick, founder,
chairman of the board and chief executive officer, passed
away due to complications from a sudden illness.
Hedrick spent his entire professional career in the
avionics industry. Following his electrical engineering
education at Cornell, he worked briefly in the aviation
instrument subsidiary of Bulova. In 1971, Hedrick
founded Harowe Systems Inc. as a joint venture with
another company in aerospace hardware.
By 1978, Harowe Systems had grown substantially
and was spun out and acquired by Smiths Industries. He
continued to run Harowe and later served as president
and CEO of Smiths Industries North American Aerospace
Companies. In 1988, he founded IS&S, and the company
has been an AEA member since 2005. During the
course of his career in avionics, Hedrick held nearly 100
patents in the electronics, optoelectric, electromagnetic,
aerospace and contamination-control fields. q

What was the objective
of this project?
To upgrade the existing avionics
to more contemporary equipment
and provide greater capability.
When did the project begin?
September 2010
When was it completed?
December 2010
What makes this
project unique?
It required a remanufacture of the
engine and radio panels, and their
relocation to accommodate the
installation of the new equipment.
Did any problems
occur while working
on the project?
The rear of the instrument panel area
is extremely cramped and required
a lot of time to strip out redundant
wiring and reorganise wiring bundles.
This install was also carried out in a
remote location which made coordinating
the project more difficult.
How were the
problems resolved?
By working through the job
processes to ensure tooling
and parts were available. It also
required close liaison with the
other trades involved.
Did you learn anything
from this project?
We became more familiar with
the cramped confines of a Lear
35 cockpit, especially with two
people trying to work in there at
once. The value of having all the
original and post build wiring diagrams
on site was also reinforced.
What was the
customer's response?
The customer was quite pleased
with the results and appreciative of
the effort taken to complete the job.

Good cooperation is required,
between trade groups involved,
on a project to ensure good
workflow throughout the job. The
install included dual Garmin GNS
430Ws, dual GTX 330ES transponders,
Sandel's SN3500 and
SN4500 primary navigation displays,
Next G phone system and
satcom cable provisions. q
