GA safety committee's initiatives include

he General Aviation Joint Steering Committee, a
collaborative industry-government group, works to
improve general aviation safety through data-driven
accident analysis and the development and promotion of risk
mitigation measures, based on the accident data.
The GAJSC's analysis leads to safety enhancements - plans
containing one or more intervention strategies to prevent or
mitigate a common problem associated with the cause of a set
of accidents. Safety enhancements can focus on equipment,
procedures, training or other mitigations.
In 2011, the GAJSC reviewed a decade of fatal general
aviation accidents - 2001 to 2010 - identifying the top 10
fatality risks. Those risks determined the group's work priorities.
The top three risks were loss of control in flight, controlled
flight into terrain, and system component failure - powerplant.
Reports, safety enhancements, and progress related to LOC-F
and SCF-P can be found on the GAJSC website. The Aircraft
Electronics Association has also covered these initiatives in
previous editions of Avionics News.
The GAJSC published the CFIT working group report in June
2021. The CFIT working group reviewed 67 accidents for analysis
in its report, which resulted in seven safety enhancements:

Future Auto Ground Collision Avoidance.

Approach Guidance in Night/Mountainous VFR.
Expanded Weather Camera Network Deploy (SE 12: Revision
1) recommends cost-effective technologies providing real-time
weather information (including actual conditions as viewed
through a remote camera) at remote airports.
In responses to this GAJSC recommendation, National
Transportation Safety Board recommendations about safety
in Hawaii, and with targeted funding from Congress, the FAA
weather camera network continues to expand outside Alaska with
specific focus on Hawaii during 2021-2022. Additionally, four
locations in Montana (Bozeman Pass, Lincoln Airport, Missoula,
and Seely Lake Airport) have advanced under a cooperative
framework between the FAA and the state, following the model
first demonstrated by the Colorado Department of Transportation
and the FAA. Industry representatives understand that other state
aviation departments are also interested in partnering with the
FAA on participation in the federal program.
Augmented Visual Technology for GA (SE 51) encourages
GA pilots and operators to equip and utilize enhanced vision
system/synthetic vision system technology to enhance situational
awareness with respect to surrounding terrain.
WINGS Program Overhaul (SE 52) suggests the FAA
overhaul and develop a plan for continual improvement of
