systems. I also performed a
variety of other installs, including
the Collins Pro Line 4 to 21 on
Falcons and a Universal EFI-890
flight display on a Challenger. I
upgraded incandescent lighting to
new LED lighting, installed Collins
Airshow systems and a variety of
cabin management systems, which
includes touchscreens and monitors.
I've worked on nearly every make
and model - Challengers, Learjets,
Gulfstreams, Embraers, Citations and
others - but mostly Falcons because
Duncan is known for its Falcon
expertise. I worked on some specialmission
aircraft too. Since Duncan is
a large MRO, you see a lot of stuff
come through, so it's a great place
for a new technician.
In 2013, you pivoted from
hands-on avionics into
sales. Tell me about that
transition and what you
like about this role.
Sales was never on my radar.
Never once did I consider that
as a progression of my career. I
thought about working my way up
to crew lead or assistant manager
or manager. My avionics manager
encouraged me to apply for the
sales position. I got it. There wasn't
any formal sales training. I worked
with those who were already doing
the job and asked lots of questions.
The roles are completely different.
It's one thing to get something that's
already sold. You get the wiring
prints in a work order along with a
game plan. Now, I'm on the opposite
side of the spectrum. There are all
these options to work through with
customers. As a technician, I had no
idea.
There are so many choices to be
made. Some systems have phases
like one, two and three. I literally
had to relearn avionics in a way.
Lucky for me, I'm a good swimmer.
I have some key folks in my life to
thank for helping me on this journey.
