AEA SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Continued from page 55
Lee Tarbox Memorial Scholarship sponsored by Pacific
Southwest Instruments: Christian Pavelka of Whitefish,
Montana, is enrolled at Helena College
in the aviation maintenance technology
program. He earned his pilot license
in the fall of 2020 and completed his
instrument rating last April. Throughout
his training, he developed an interest in
learning how aircraft systems work and how to repair
them. This interest has led him to pursue his A&P
ratings. Upon graduating, his goal is to move back to
Kalispell, Montana, and work as a pilot/mechanic, flying
backcountry tours in the mornings and working with his
A&P license in the afternoon.
Pat Napolitano Memorial Scholarship: Philip Krzyszton
of Waumandee, Wisconsin, is studying
aviation maintenance technology at
Northland Community & Technical College
along with an internship as an A&P with
the air cargo company IFL Group. He is a
pilot and earned a tailwheel endorsement
and passed the instrument rating written test. He is
taking summer classes and has an internship with West
Star Aviation. He is soaking up as much knowledge
as possible and is completing flight training for his
instrument rating.
Marshall Temple Memorial Scholarship: Elias Wiley of
Jacksonville, Florida, is a student at EmbryRiddle
Aeronautical University. He has
two semesters of school remaining, one
of which will focus on avionics. Wiley is
currently an intern at Duncan Aviation in
Lincoln, Nebraska. This has allowed him to
gain experience and motivated him to consider working
on smaller jets as a career.
The Stone Foundation Scholarship: Marci Haengel of
Greenville, Michigan, is a student at the
School of Missionary Aviation Technology.
She has earned her airframe certificate and is
working on her powerplant certificate. With
help, she is upgrading the avionics on her
1967 Cherokee 140. Once she has completed
her A&P license, she plans to get a job as a mechanic and
continue to do flight instructing on the side.
Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics Scholarship:
Owen Graham of Caledonia, Michigan, will
attend Hope College to play football and
continue his aviation journey. During his
high school career, he attended Kent Career
Technical Center in the aviation program. He
learned the basics of aviation flight, hangar
safety, weight and balance of aircraft, basics of aviation
electronics, and installing basic wiring fundamentals for
small aircraft. Graham earned his aircraft electronics
technician certification and the foreign object elimination
endorsement. His future goals include running a successful
aviation company in Michigan. He has a passion for
satisfying customer wants and needs.

Universal Avionics Scholarship: Jordan Burkett of Melba,
Idaho, is a student at Utah State University.
She currently works as an operations
management intern for Able Aerospace
Services. She is learning how to operate
a large aircraft maintenance, repair, and
overhaul department within the company,
with the end goal of a full-time position in this capacity.
She recently led the Utah State University Flight Team in
the 2022 National SAFECON Competition, organized by
the National Intercollegiate Flying Association in May. q
