The Aircraft Electronics Association's international membership continues to grow. Currently, the AEA
represents avionics businesses in more than 40 countries throughout the world. To better serve the needs of the

TCCA activities for 2023
Another year has passed quickly as they all have
in the last three years. With the pandemic settling
and life getting back to normal, it appears the
perception of time is slowing. This is especially true
for Transport Canada Civil Aviation. In 2022, the
COVID-19 restrictions were lifted along with all
the special exemptions and processes put in place to
manage operations throughout this period. Personnel
at TCCA also returned to the offices in September,
which helped get everyone reacclimated, although the
working arrangements are a little different as many
have opted for the hybrid work scenario or work at
home part time.
With the workload of COVID-19 management
gone, TCCA was able to return to other priorities that
have lagged in the last three years. The Standards
branch and the CARAC team have spent some time
reevaluating the status of all projects and resetting
targets and publishing dates. Potentially, 2023 will be
a busy year, and we look forward to the completion of
many initiatives.

recorders, changes to training requirements and
organizations, the introduction of new fees for aircraft
certification, training on the new AWM 523, updates to
CAR 507 and activities related to climate change.
Of course, there will also be some movement of
ADS-B and CAR 521. ADS-B for Class A airspace
comes into effect in February, and there will be further
consultations on Class B and beyond. The notice of
proposed amendment for CAR 521 should be published
in early summer.
TCCA to evaluate LSA
aircraft for flight training
TCCA has published a call for proposals inviting
flight schools to submit an application and details
to express interest and how they meet the criteria
set by TCCA. The intent of this program is to
evaluate the use of aircraft certified to the European
LSA standards. This evaluation will be from the
aircraft handling and operation perspective to see
if these types are suitable to be used extensively in
pilot training. They will also be evaluated from an
emissions standpoint, both for noise, lead and carbon
dioxide. These pilot projects will last one to two
years.
