to defoliation at the R-5 stage when compared
with current charts (Table 12).
SUGARBEETStand Reduction

Research began in 2018 to study the influence of stand reduction at three growth stages
on the growth and development of sugarbeet.
This research was conducted with North Dakota
State University at Ada, Minnesota, and Prosper,
North Dakota. Stand reduction treatments consisted of a check and then 20, 40, 60, and 80 percent of the normal seeding rate. The reductions
were done at three growths stages: 4-6, 8-10, and
10-12-leaves. The stage that the stand reductions
were done at the Ada site had an effect with lower root yields with a later stand reduction (Table
13). There were no differences observed in root
yield or recoverable sucrose at the Prosper site.
Root yields and recoverable sugars were reduced
at the highest levels of stand reduction at both
Ada and Prosper (Table 14).

Research on the influence of stand reduction
on loss of sweet corn production, conducted at the
Southern Minnesota Research and Outreach Center in Waseca Minnesota, began in 2017. Sweet
corn stands were thinned at three growth stages:
5-leaf, 10-leaf, and 15-leaf with reduction levels
