TODAYcrop insurance 2012 Crop Insurance Ind Another Successful Convention The 2012 Crop Insurance Industry Annual Convention, sponsored by the American Association of Crop Insurers (AACI) and National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS), was a tremendous success. More than 390 industry representatives, reinsurers, brokers, agents and association staff attended the four-day conference in Scottsdale, Arizona. Speakers and panelists provided a variety of unique perspectives on American agriculture and the role of crop insurance as the cornerstone of risk management tools for U.S. farmers and ranchers. Along with several educational sessions, the meeting provided attendees an opportunity to meet with reinsurers and network with other crop insurance professionals. Dr. Mark Lange, CEO, National Cotton Council, provided attendees with an explanation of the Cotton Council’s 2012 Farm Bill Proposal, most commonly referred to as STAX (Stacked Income Protection). The Senate Agriculture Committee’s Chief Counsel, Jonathan Coppess, discussed the timing and challenges of writing the 2012 Farm Bill. Mr. Coppess encouraged all interested parties to work together to offer programs that will strengthen the Farm Bill and provide the greatest risk management tools available for farmers. Bill Murphy, Administrator for the Risk Management Agency, gave a thorough presentation that included: program improvements over the last two years; new products offered in 2012 including, camelina, olives and pistachios; and, planned new product development including use of Common Land Units (CLUs) and precision ag. Mr. Murphy also discussed the changes in premium billing, 2012 rates, APH review, Trend Adjusted Yield and Data Mining. 30 MAY 2012
