residency program who are currently interns,

synergistically to constantly grow and push my boundaries
as a clinician as well as develop my career goals through
self-discovery. Coming out of this program I felt uniquely
positioned to obtain the fellowship of my choice. I'm so
thankful to have had the opportunity to be part of this
training path."
The residents in the program are a close-knit family,
and their input and ideas are used to help the program
evolve and expand to meet their needs and more.
We are excited to welcome our newest interns,
Drs. Christian O'Donnell and Alexander Rodriguez,
into our program.

Update on the Combined Pediatrics and
Anesthesiology residency program
2019 marks the 9th year of our combined pediatricsanesthesiology residency program. As one of six such
innovative and highly competitive residency programs
in the country, our graduating residents are eligible
for both the pediatrics and anesthesiology boards.
Our residents have been leaders in global health
projects abroad as well as developing curricula locally
to improve patient care and resident education
and well-being.
Alumni have gone on to pursue academic careers
in pediatric anesthesiology, pediatric cardiac
anesthesiology, pediatric pain and palliative care, as well
as private practice. Erin Conner, MD, a recent graduate

On November 3, 20 trainees and faculty gathered for
the quarterly Women in Anesthesia meeting. CoDirector Alyssa Burgart, MD, presented gender gaps in
leadership positions and scientific publications. Codirector Natalya Hasan-Hill, MD, led a lively discussion
about sponsorship opportunities and partnering with
the Anesthesia Diversity Committee.

WARC

Stanford Residency program representation at WARC

On May 10-12, 2019, we had 25 residents attend the
Western Anesthesia Residents Conference (WARC)
hosted by the University of Colorado at Denver. The
annual meeting provided the opportunity for our
residents to showcase the diversity of their projects,
from Quality Improvement projects to Global Health
Initiatives. Stanford will be hosting #WARC2020 on
May 1-2, 2020. Hope to see you all there!
In summary, we have a lot to be proud of as the Stanford
anesthesia, perioperative, and pain medicine residency
programs allow trainees to learn under the guidance
of faculty, master clinicians, renowned researchers,
and international thought leaders. Residents benefit
from innovative simulation sessions and daily lecture
programs for exam keyword review, while taking part
in one of the first anesthesia wellness programs in
the nation.
