CSA's Future is Bright...

ach year, the pages
of Vital Times are
filled with reports from
established CSA leaders
informing you of the
achievements and activities
of various committees and
task forces.
Recently, a significant focus of discussion among
CSA leaders has been the critical importance
of encouraging the active engagement and
participation of resident members and early
career physicians within CSA. As membership is
the lifeblood of every organization, developing
a pathway for younger members to engage and
contribute is essential for CSA to remain a vibrant,
sustainable medical society.
So, I decided this year to dedicate the space I am
provided in Vital Times to showcase the many
contributions that CSA's early career physicians are
making to the success of CSA and the specialty of
anesthesiology. My hope is not only to acknowledge
the achievement of these individuals but to inspire
and encourage other residents and early career
physicians to invest their time and talents to
advance CSA and their own personal and professional
objectives.
Miriam Sarwary, MD
Dr. Sarwary is now serving her second term as
Director of CSA In Training Forum (Residents and
Fellows). She recently completed her residency
at UCLA and is now in fellowship at Stanford.
Dr. Sarwary was instrumental in developing and
implementing a survey of CSA residents and early
career members, the findings of which will help
inform the benefits included in a new discounted
three-year Early Career Membership that CSA is
planning to implement in partnership with the ASA
beginning in 2023. One of the findings in the survey
is residents' interest in local networking events with
CSA and practice group leaders. As a result, CSA is
looking to invite residents and local practice group
leaders to a social event associated with each of the
quarterly board of directors meetings.
Sophia Poorsattar, MD
Dr. Poorsattar is an attending anesthesiologist and
faculty member at UCLA, having recently completed
her residency. Dr. Poorsattar serves as the program
coordinator for the CSA/UCLA/Project Lead the Way
partnership, which facilitates active engagement by
