Congratulations to the Delaware Valley Doll Club
on 40 years of collecting dolls together!

T

his year marks 40 years that the Delaware Valley
Doll Club was founded by Karen Zemlansky.
Initially, the club's meetings were held in Karen's
home in Mercerville, New Jersey. Quickly outgrowing
the home, subsequent meetings were held at the
Hamilton Township Public Library in Hamilton, New

Jersey. Members came from across the state and from
Pennsylvania, and included doll collectors, doll artists,
doll dealers, historians and an author of doll books.
The club is well known for their "Christmas in July"
Doll Show, educational programs and their many
generous donations to the community and beyond.

he Shaker Doll Club held its 42nd Annual Doll Show
and Sale in Albany, New York, on October 6th, 2018,
chaired by Nancy Kiyonaga and Claire Komulainen.
Attendees shopped more than 115 tables of wonderful
antique, vintage and modern dolls as well as accessories,
textiles and books offered by dealers from seven states.
This year's Helper sale again benefitted local children's
organizations. Patricia DeCerbo coordinated the raffle.
Three dolls were offered: an antique Armand Marseilles,
a vintage Effanbee "Patsyette" and a 1995 Effanbee
Christmas doll. A fourth lot was an American Girl
Teddy Bear with wardrobe. Each came in a presentation
box with clothing and accessories provided by club
members as well as with a doll quilt handmade by
chairperson Patricia.

Another popular feature of the show and sale is the
educational exhibit. This year's exhibit was a wonderful
display of antique Teddy bears organized by Tore Scelso.
Included were Teddys by Steiff and Ideal and other
German, American, English and French manufacturers.
Tasty Greek food provided by the Ladies' Association
of St. Sophia's Church was another highlight for many
attending the show.
At the show, more than ten attendees signed up
for information about becoming a Shaker Doll Club
member. We are pleased because new members add
fresh energy, talents and interests to the club. The Shaker
Doll Show and Sale offers an excellent opportunity to
socialize with fellow doll lovers, to learn more about
dolls and to shop for your heart's delight.
