Director of ReAL Services

R

eAL Services is the responsibility of the 1st Vice-President and is divided into six departments:
Media, Audio Visual, Education, Conservation, Publications and Collections. The Director of
ReAL Services (DRS) is responsible for the efficient operation of the museum, library and all ReAL
Services programs and educational activities.
Media
UFDC uses its Facebook page as our social media vehicle to bring attention to the organization
and highlight activities both on a national and local level. The UFDC Facebook is supported by
the Director of ReAL Services and the Secretary-Treasurer. The Facebook page is monitored daily
to respond to questions posted. Drafts of potential Facebook posts are reviewed by the SecretaryTreasurer prior to posting.
In February, the DRS formatted and posted Black History Month submissions composed
by UFDC member Joyce Stamps and UFDC President Loretta Nardone. A Facebook post has
been prepared for each holiday and events involving UFDC club activities when submitted.
Convention events for 2019 were posted individually to highlight and promote opportunities for
convention attendees.
DOLL NEWS and Convention 2019 Souvenir Journal
The DRS prepared pages for fall, winter, spring and summer DOLL NEWS issues as follows:
Headquarters Happenings, Market Place and Fundraising Committee Report. An article focusing on
one of the museum displays (Schoenhuts) was prepared for winter 2019.
The DRS is the liaison with 2019 Souvenir Journal Editor Florence Theriault. The DRS
consolidated all ads for the Journal, working with the Journal Advertising Manager Julie Blewis.
Audio Visual Programs
The goal of UFDC's Audio-Visual Program is to have interesting and educational programs
available for sale that reflect well on our organization. The winner of this year's AV contest,
announced at the Opening Ceremony, is Kari Gluski. Her winning entry entitled "Modern Dolls in
Historical Costuming to 1899" was presented by AV Education Chairperson Karen Monahan during
convention week.
Symposiums, Workshops and Programs
Two highly successful workshops were held at UFDC Headquarters this year. A workshop by
Alice Leverett "Sew for a 15-inch French Fashion Doll" took place March 14-17, 2019 and a workshop
by Patti Ulrich "The Paris Dress - A French Fashion Doll Workshop" was held April 10-12, 2019.
The UFDC Headquarters was open for a very special Open House and Tender Loving Boutique
sale on Saturday, April 6, 2019. This year, because of the many generous donations from our
members, we were able to offer the Boutique at the Open House and again at the 70th Annual UFDC
Convention in Nashville. The Executive Committee was on hand to greet the attendees, discuss the
Museum collection and answer questions.
