The theater in the museum continuously
plays the movie, Gone with the Wind.

Visitors can watch the movie in its entirety
or catch glimpses of it at the museum as well.
A small movie theater seats eight in a separate
room at the back of the museum, where the
movie is continuously shown. The museum
gift shop presents merchandise from the
book, movie, and the Civil War period. New
items and vintage treasures are available
for purchase, and Vicky always has a good
supply of dolls for sale.
In 2015, I was joined by UFDC members,
Suanne Blalock and Pam Parmley as we
attended a two-day Gone with the Wind
event hosted by Vicky and Mike. Mickey
Kuhn, who played Ashley and Melanie's
young son, Beau, was there. Mickey is one
of only two living actors from the movie.
The other is Olivia de Havilland (Melanie),
who is 103 years young and lives in Paris,
France. Mickey gave an interesting talk
about his life and his experience of being in
the monumental film, answered questions,
and autographed movie stills. On the first
night, we attended a play about Margaret
Mitchell's life. The next day brought a
question and answer session with Mickey
Kuhn, followed by browsing unique and

On the wall of a staircase in the Gathering and Guest House, hangs
an original painting by Sleepy Read, father of Texas Western artist,
Stylle Read.

Civil War memorabilia includes this 238-gram gold nugget
found in Alaska by a Civil War veteran during the gold rush.

rare items provided by a quite a few vendors from all over
the country - to either gaze at with desire or purchase. For the
evening we enjoyed a barbeque dinner with reenactments of the
Civil War battles at the Rogers' home property in Grandview,
Texas, fifteen miles from the museum. Vicky and Mike have
remained friends with Mickey Kuhn and see him periodically.
They've also known other actors from the movie that are now
deceased, including Fred Crane who played "Brent Tarleton",
Anne Rutherford, "Scarlett's sister", and Cammie King who
played "Bonnie Blue Butler."
