The Cracow or Krakow costume is considered to be Poland's national folk costume and often used to depict wedding couples. This grouping of ten 6-inch dolls shows a wedding scene with bride and groom as well as musicians. The married couple is receiving the traditional welcome with bread and salt, showing approval of the marriage. A sticker on the bottom of the wooden base these dolls are glued to has written information about the ceremony in Polish, English and French. Standing 15-inches tall, this Ndebele Bride wooden doll from South Africa is wrapped in a beaded blanket. The beaded train or inyoga, which hangs from her shoulders goes with her veil or siyaya. Her skirt is five panels which symbolizes the five head of cattle her family will receive as a bride price. These dolls would be given to a young bride on her wedding day by her immediate family in the hopes of promoting a large and healthy family. DOLL NEWS * UFDC.ORG 123http://ufdc.org
