Financial Statement Review

I

n the Winter 2020 DOLL NEWS, the DOLL-ER$ and
SENSE article showed how UFDC's finances had
performed over the last 10 years. If you didn't read
it, you should give it a go - it's written as a Q&A with
pictures - feedback is that it was easy to understand. In
this spring issue, the focus is on the last financial year
and the results of the Financial Statement Review.
So, what are the key messages?
KEY MESSAGE ONE: THE REVIEW GAVE US A
CLEAN BILL OF HEALTH
The Certified Public Accountants of RubinBrown
LLP completed their review of the United Federation
of Doll Clubs, Inc. Financial Statements for the
period September 1, 2018 through August 31, 2019 on
January 16, 2020.
Their review concluded that "Based on our reviews,
we are not aware of any material modifications that should be
made to the accompanying financial statements in order for
them to be in accordance with accounting principles generally
accepted in the United States of America."
That's great news!
KEY MESSAGE TWO: 2018-2019 WAS A VERY
GOOD YEAR FOR US FINANCIALLY WITH A NET
SURPLUS OF $251,000 (SEE THE CONSOLIDATES
STATEMENT OF ACTIVITIES).
This was a VERY good year for UFDC dollar-wise. The
reasons for that were as follows:
*	Revenues, at $1.88 million were 26% above plan
	whilst
*	Expenses, at $1.63 million were only 8% above plan

There were two main reasons for revenues being so high:
*	Convention Revenue was $290,000 more than plan
(+32%)
and
*	Gifts and Donations were $113,000 more than plan
(+73%) (THANK YOU ALL!!!)
The reason for expenses being (only) 8% higher was
*	Convention expenditure was only $141,000 more than
plan (+18%). This increase was due to a larger than
anticipated number of attendees.
Despite this being a great year financially, there are two
things we should all be concerned about:
1.	Club Dues were under budget (whilst MAL dues
were over). If this trend continues, this will impact
not only dollars but also what we can achieve as an
organisation, (have a look at the article on Membership
in this issue to find out more).
2.	The Nashville Convention was VERY successful - it
was planned on the basis of 750 attendees and over
1230 people ended up coming. If Dallas or any other
future convention is not successful, it will have a big
negative impact on our dollar results, so if you haven't
already, SIGN UP!
KEY MESSAGE THREE: OUR BALANCE SHEET
LOOKS OK, BUT WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE
HAVE SUFFICIENT CASH ON HAND ON AN
ONGOING BASIS.
As at Aug 31, 2019, our Total Assets stand at
$4.2 million.
