The Dallas Doll Club Celebrated its 60th Anniversary

n October 19, 2019, a private room in NorthPark's
Neiman-Marcus Café was the perfect venue for this
very special milestone. The club received its UFDC Charter
(#68) on October 19, 1959. Founder Opal Wallace served
as Region 3 Director 1963-1966, with five more members
of the club subsequently serving in the position. Ever
supportive of UFDC, the club has hosted several meal
events at both national and regional conventions, and two
of the members served as editor of DOLL NEWS. Those
members who had original club dolls (created in the early
1960s) brought them for a small display. The bisque-head
dolls, painted by charter member Althea Brooks, were
dressed according to each early member's interpretation
of the 1840-1860 period of costume design. In 2009, when
the Dallas Doll Club turned 50, Anne Luree Leonard
cast smaller versions of the original club doll. Several of
these, too, were on display for the 60th celebration. Guests
included former Dallas Doll Club members JoEllen Brown,
Gail Cook and Marianne Estrada. To commemorate the
occasion, a special 60th anniversary paper doll was created
by the club's president, Kathy Monier. Kathy also designed
and sewed three dresses to fit the 50th anniversary club
doll, which were won by three lucky members. Graciously
hosted by long-time club member Lynne Dowler, the
Dallas Doll Club looks forward to many more years of doll
study and friendship.

A special display of three of the Dallas Doll Club's
original club dolls (circa 1962) with smaller versions
made to celebrate the club's 50th anniversary (2009)
set the tone for the club's milestone.
